ওসমানী মেডিকেল, তথা যেকোন মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে প্রতিদিন চিকিৎসা নিতে রোগী আসে ৩৫০০-৪০০০। হাসপাতালে সবসময় রোগী ভর্তি থাকে ১২০০-১৫০০। সুতরাং রোগী কতজন মারা যাবে তা সংখ্যায় হিসাব করে নির্ধারণ করতে পারবেন না।
শিশু বিভাগে যে সকল বাচ্চাকাচ্চা ভর্তি হয়, তারা কম ওজন, নিউমোনিয়া কিংবা জন্মের পরপর ব্রেইনে অক্সিজেনের অভাব-সাধারণত এসব ক্রিটিকাল ইলনেস নিয়াই আসে। ১ মাস পেডিয়াট্রিক্স ওয়ার্ড করে এটুকুই বুঝছি-বাচ্চাগুলার মারা যাওয়ার চাইতে বেচে থাকাই সবচেয়ে বেশী আশ্চর্য। শুনতে খারাপ লাগলেও বাস্তবতা মানতেই হবে।
ঢাকার বাইরে খুব কম মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালেই NICU-neonatal intensive care unit আছে। সুতরাং কম বয়সী বাচ্চাদের পূর্নাঙ চিকিৎসা সেবা নিশ্চিত করতে কতটুকু রাস্ট্রীয় ব্যাবস্থা আছে?
লোকবলের অভাব, দক্ষ নার্স সিস্টারদের অভাব, প্রয়োজনীয় ডাক্তার স্বল্পতা-সব মিলিয়ে ৯০০ বেডের হাসপাতালে ২০০০ রোগীর সর্বোচ্চ চিকিৎসা সেবা নিশ্চিত করতে হোল সিস্টেমেই পরিবর্তন আনা উচিত না?
শীতকালে এমনিতেই শিশু মৃত্যুর হার বেশী। প্রতিদিন যেকোন বিভাগীয় হাসপাতালেই ৫-৭ জন বাচ্চাকাচ্চা এভারেজে মারা যায়। গত কয়েকদিনের চলমান হরতাল-অবরোধে বাচ্চা গুলা হয়ত উপজেলা হেলথ কমপ্লেক্সে আটকে ছিলো। সব খারাপ বাচ্চা একসাথে আসায়, গতকাল একসাথে ১০ জন মারা যায়-এটাও একটা কারন হতে পারে।
একটু চিন্তা করেন।
সর্বোচ্চ প্রচেষ্টা দিয়ে রোগীদের জন্য চেষ্টা করে হাসপাতাল কতৃপক্ষ, ডাক্তার। যখন কেউ বলে ‘চিকিৎসায় অবহেলা’ তখন মেজাজ খারাপ হওয়ার পাশাপাশি মন ও খারাপ হয়। আমাদের সীমাবদ্ধতাটা আপনাদের অনুধাবন করা উচিৎ না?

well the death caused so many fuss cos the attendant is somewhat relative of our DD plus journalist. They baby was admitted in SOMCH on sunday with PNA stage 3 with HIA. The baby was delivered in Sunamganj and was referred from there. they gave history of scarce amniotic fluid with muconium aspiration with LBW (2 kg)…the pt party was counseled multiple times over the past 2 days that the baby’s condition is very poor and there is a very little chance of its survival. last night the baby’s condition degraded and duty doctor had nothing to do to reverse its condition. As he was busy with the admission of the new patients he could not attend to the baby all the way long but he was monitoring it routinely. He even tried to resuscitate but couldnt save him. THe pt party got agitated and made a scene and started threatening him. and what he did you saw on TV.
8 babies died last night in paedi ward, not 10…and some of the pts were meant to die as they were in very critical condition. in this 900 seated hospital we serve 2000 pts in indoor where 20-25 occurs everyday at an avg. I have that much in my hand right now.
