বাংলাদেশী চিকিৎসা নৃবিজ্ঞানী এবং লেখক ডা শাহাদুজ্জামান

প্ল্যাটফর্মের পঞ্চম সংখ্যায় প্রকাশিত আমাদের কালের নায়কেরা শীর্ষক লেখায় বাংলাদেশের শীর্ষস্থানীয় কয়েকজন গবেষকদের সম্পর্কে বর্ণনা করেছিলাম। তা ছিল সংক্ষেপে। আজ তাদের একজনকে নিয়ে বিশদ আলোচনা করবো।

এই চিকিৎসক এবং গবেষককে আমরা বেশি চিনি একজন সাহিত্যিক হিসেবে। তাঁর নাম শাহাদুজ্জামান।

শাহাদুজ্জামানের জন্ম ১৯৬০ সালে, ঢাকায়। মাধ্যমিক এবং উচ্চমাধ্যমিক পর্যায়ে পড়াশোনা করেছেন মির্জাপুর ক্যাডেট কলেজে। চট্টগ্রাম মেডিকেল কলেজ থেকে এমবিবিএস পাস করে কাজ করেছেন ব্র্যাকের গ্রামীণ স্বাস্থ্য প্রকল্পে। পরবর্তীতে জনস্বাস্থ্যে নিপসম থেকে মাস্টার্স এবং নেদারল্যান্ডের আমস্টারডম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে চিকিৎসা নৃবিজ্ঞানে পিএইচডি অর্জন করেন। শাহাদুজ্জামান ছিলেন ব্র্যাকের জেমস পি গ্র্যান্ট স্কুল অফ পাবলিক হেলথের প্রথম কোর্স কোঅরডিনেটর। সেখানে সহযোগী অধ্যাপক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন তিনি। বর্তমানে তিনি ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ গ্লাসগোর Wellcome Trust end of life care project  এ রিসার্চ ফেলো হিসেবে কর্মরত। সেখানে তিনি Health & Social Policy নামক স্নাতক কোর্সে  Global Challenges at the end of life নামক মডিউলে শিক্ষক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন। এর আগে ২০১১ থেকে ২০১৪ পর্যন্ত নিউক্যাসেল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে MSc in Public Health and Health Service Research নামক কোর্সে ‘Introduction to Global Health’ নামক মডিউলে শিক্ষক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করতেন। এছাড়া ২০০৮ থেকে ২০১০ পর্যন্ত নেদারল্যান্ডের আমস্টারডম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চিকিৎসা নৃবিজ্ঞান বিভাগে  ‘Social, Political and Historical Dimensions of Infectious Disease’ নামক মডিউলে কোঅরডিনেটর হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।

বাংলাদেশের হাসপাতাল নিয়ে প্রথম নৃতাত্ত্বিক গবেষণা করেন তিনি। সেটা সাহিত্যের আকারে লিখেছেন তার কালজয়ী গ্রন্থ ‘একটি হাসপাতাল, একজন নৃবিজ্ঞানী, কয়েকটি ভাঙ্গা হাড়’। শাহাদুজ্জামানের এই নৃবৈজ্ঞানিক গবেষণার সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্রাপ্তি হচ্ছে বাংলাদেশে বিদ্যমান ঔপনিবেশিক ধাঁচের হাসপাতাল ব্যবস্থার ব্যর্থতার বয়ান। এই বাংলাদেশ একই সাথে গরিবি হালতের দেশ, আশরাফ আতরাফ চরম ফারাকের সমাজ, পরিবারকেন্দ্রিক, পুরুষপ্রধান, নৈতিকভাবে দুর্বল, সহিংস কিন্তু একই সঙ্গে সৃজনশীল ও উদ্ভাবনী শক্তিসম্পন্ন।
