কলেরা পানিবাহিত প্রাণঘাতী রোগ।কি পরিমাণ ক্ষতি করতে সক্ষম সেটা নতুন করে বলার কিছু নেই। যদিও বর্তমানে পাবলিক হেলথের ইন্টারভেনশনের কল্যাণে এর প্রকোপ অনেকটাই কমানো সম্ভব হয়েছে।
তবে আমাদের সম্পদের তুলনায় সমস্যা বেশি তাই দেশীয় গবেষকগন অপ্রতুল সম্পদে সমস্যা মেটাবার অনবরত চেষ্টা করে যাচ্ছেন।
সে রকমই একটি গবেষণার ফলে দেখা যাচ্ছে সুতির শাড়ী ভাজ করে ফিল্টার হিসেবে ব্যবহারে কলেরার প্রকোপ কমানো যাচ্ছে।

Study Population: 7233
Result: A simple method for filtering pond and river water to reduce the incidence of cholera, field tested in Matlab, Bangladesh, proved effective in reducing the incidence of cholera by 48%.
The infective dose has been shown to be ca. 103 to 106 Vibrio cholera O1 cells.
Four layers of sari cloth were considered optimal for water filtration, since it consistently removed99% of the bacteria.
